Apple Watch owners are reporting a charging error that occurs under watchOS 8.3. Third-party chargers are affected.
Apple recently released watchOS 8.3 to all users worldwide. The update focused on improving overall performance and fixing bugs, but it also reportedly contains a new bug. Users are reporting that the Apple Watch is no longer charging properly when connected to a third-party charger. Many users have noticed that the Apple Watch only charges for 2 hours before it stops charging altogether. Others have reported that the battery drains while their Apple Watch is connected to the charger.
Apple Watch becomes picky under watchOS 8.3
Initially, it was thought that this was a problem that only occurred with the Apple Watch Series 7. But that does not seem to be the case, as there are also reports that mention "older" models. MacRumors presented found in an analysis that many of the complaints relate to cheap third-party chargers that come from Amazon and fewer to other brands. Apple has not commented publicly on this issue and there are currently no known solutions. Affected Apple Watch owners are advised to use their Apple-supplied charger if possible.
