The Apple Watch Series 7 is officially available today. Now there are increasing reports of missing app icons.
The problem with missing app icons on the Apple Watch Series 7 was first discovered by James Thomson, the developer at Pcalc and Dice. In a tweet, he pointed out the problem and showed what it looks like in practice.
Besides supporting Series 7, have you included nice vector icons in your watch app? Then I hope you like empty icons when your users install your apps today. Doesn't reproduce on Series 7 simulator, works fine on all my other watches. I'm not satisfied.
Apple Watch Series 7: Missing app icons – you are not alone
The lack of icons occurs according to Thomson in all views. Thomson also explains that the simulator in Xcode displays the icons without any problems. It is therefore unclear why the problem occurs, but it is likely related to the new screen dimensions, as the new Apple Watch has a nominally larger screen than the Series 6 and therefore has a higher pixel count.

The problem does not seem to occur on the Apple Watch Series 6 or older models with watchOS 8. This means that users will have to be patient until Apple responds accordingly. watchOS 8 was released together with iOS 15 on September 20th. The changes and improvements to the operating system include new tools for writing and sharing messages, a redesign of the "Find My" function, new fitness and health features, a revised Home app, Focus mode, some new features in the Photos app and more.
