After the iPhone 11 Pro Max as well as iPhone 11 was disassembled, it is now the turn of the Apple Watch Series 5.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before iFixit took a closer look at the new generation of Apple Watch. But what does the inside of the watch look like? When you open the case, one thing becomes immediately clear - there aren't many differences to the Apple Watch Series 4. To be able to open the smartwatch at all, all you need to do is heat up the glue slightly. Of course, you still need a knife. Inside the Apple Watch Series 5 is a battery that is 1.4 percent larger than its predecessor. The processor has remained unchanged - only the memory has been increased from 16 GB to a whopping 32 GB.
Always-on display function remains invisible
But what exactly was changed on the screen to be able to offer the always-on display function? According to iFixit, this question is very difficult to answer, as changes were obviously made to the display technology itself. This optimization is not visible to the naked eye - according to the repair specialists. According to Apple, the aluminum version of the Apple Watch Series 5 is made of recycled aluminum. Here, too, iFixit was unimpressed:
"While using recycled materials is great, the truth is that most of the world's aluminum is already recycled, and recycled aluminum is significantly cheaper than the freshly mined variety. The real question is whether Apple is using recycled aluminum that wouldn't have been recycled anyway. And after analyzing Apple's statements on the subject, the answer seems to be no."
Ultimately, iFixit concludes that the Apple Watch Series 5 is very similar to its predecessor. (Photo by mariakraynova / Bigstockphoto)
