Apple introduced four new subscription services this evening – Apple TV Plus, Apple TV Channels, Apple Arcade and Apple News Plus. In addition, Apple Card presented. As expected, there was no new hardware. However, one small change was not mentioned.
The Apple TV, introduced in 2015, has been renamed. The fourth generation of the TV box is now called Apple TV HD and can be purchased for 159 euros - the storage space is 32 GB. The Apple TV 4K is also still available in 32 GB and 64 GB versions for 199 euros and 219 euros respectively. How long the TV box will last remains unknown, of course.
More revenue from services
Apple has repeatedly asserted that it wants to generate more revenue through its own services. Observers expect a decline in Apple TV box sales due to the release of AirPlay 2, Siri and Homekit on various smart TVs. Previously, Apple devices were a prerequisite for this. Cupertino is now relaxing this policy to make implementation less dependent on its own device sales. It remains to be seen what effect this will actually have on Apple TV sales.
