The second version of the tvOS 14.7 beta, recently released, fixes an issue where 4K video streams were incorrectly displayed as HD only on the new Apple TV 4K.
It remains unclear how many users will benefit from the problem were affected. It also remains unclear whether it only affected the labeling or whether the resolution was actually reduced. If it was reduced, then it was likely that the new Apple TV was not correctly identifying itself and its capabilities to streaming services such as Netflix and HBO Max in the app. The argument against this was that the problem was not universally reproducible.
When will tvOS 14.7 be released to all users?
Nonetheless, while Apple has not publicly commented on the issue, several reports from users who have been able to reproduce the problem indicate that the latest developer beta fixes it. Apple's documentation for tvOS 14.7 beta 2 does not mention it, saying only that there are "no new release notes." However, this is not atypical for Apple. Even with new features, the description may not mention it. Currently, it is unknown when tvOS 14.7 will be released to all users, but the version is expected to be rolled out within the next month.
