Fire department calls to Apple stores are not uncommon. They are usually triggered when a battery is being replaced. This was the case yesterday in Amsterdam.
At around 2 p.m., the Amsterdam fire brigade was called to the Apple Store in Leidseplein. The reason was a punctured battery. Fumes were released that caused breathing difficulties in three people.
Before the fire department arrived, the employees placed the device in a box full of sand and then the store was evacuated. This is reported by the Dutch Apple magazine iCultureFortunately, nobody was injured and the fire brigade had to ventilate the premises.
For the time being, it remains unclear why the iPad battery broke. The incident may have been caused by improper handling when changing the battery. Another defect is also conceivable.
In the Netherlands, shopping is also possible on Sundays – which is why the Apple Store is well attended all weekend long.
