According to Apple, iOS apps will also be available on Apple Silicon Macs. However, as has now become known, not every iPhone application will be available in the Mac App Store.
Apple will host its third fall event tonight and is expected to unveil at least one new Mac device with Apple Silicon chip. The company already confirmed the transition to ARM-based Macs at WWDC 2020. These devices are capable of running any iOS application - but there is a catch. Since Apple Silicon Macs have the same processors as the iPhone and iPad, Apple will allow users to download and install iOS applications on these Macs.
Developers can decide for themselves
This applies even if developers do not offer a special version of the application for macOS. In theory, all apps developed for iPhone and iPad are available in the Mac App Store. This requires macOS 11 Big Sur and an Apple Silicon Mac. But in reality, not every application will be available. Although all iOS apps are available for Apple Silicon in the Mac App Store by default, the Cupertino-based company allows developers to remove their iOS apps from the new store. This means that if a developer does not want to list their app in the Mac App Store, they can remove the application if they wish. Now reported the US blog 9to5mac that some major iOS app developers will not be participating for the time being.
Apple Silicon & iOS Apps: Could Change Over Time
The information comes from the App Store system itself. For example, applications such as YouTube, Google Maps, Google Drive and Gmail are said to be missing. The Facebook app, Snapchat, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ will probably not be available in the Mac App Store either. Netflix and the HBO Max app, on the other hand, are said to be available for download on Apple Silicon Macs. But that shouldn't discourage anyone for now. Even if popular applications won't be available from the start, that doesn't mean that they won't be added at some point.
