Apple, in collaboration with Sony, has begun making the Apple TV app available on select Sony TVs.
The release comes as little surprise - this step was already announced a few months ago. Apple offers its own TV app on various Smart TVs to make streaming easier for Apple users. While an Apple TV was previously necessary, this is no longer a requirement. Owners of 2019 Sony TVs are currently receiving a new software update that offers the new application. However, it is currently unclear which Sony TVs will actually be included. It is currently assumed that AirPlay 2 is supported by the Sony Z9G series, Sony A9G series, Sony X950G series, Sony X950G series and the Sony X850G series. The firmware update in question will is currently being rolled out gradually. Since Apple TV+ will go live on November 1st, the new update should be available on all compatible Sony TVs by then.
