In addition to the regular betas of iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5 and macOS Monterey 12.4, Apple today also released a beta version of the new 15.5 firmware for the Studio Display.
In March, Apple promised a firmware fix for the Studio Display to address a webcam issue. According to an Apple spokesperson who spoke to The Verge spoke, the firmware beta released today does indeed fix the webcam issue. The Studio Display features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera that supports Center Stage. But Studio Display owners and testers have found that the camera consistently produces grainy, washed-out images, which Apple says is due to an issue that causes the system to not behave as expected.

The firmware brings updated "camera settings, improved noise reduction, contrast and image cropping," according to Apple. All Studio Display models can receive over-the-air firmware updates. However, this firmware update is limited to Macs that are currently running the macOS Monterey 12.4 beta. After installing the macOS 12.4 beta, Studio Display owners can install the firmware under System Preferences -> Software Update. (Image: Apple)
