Apple released a new firmware update for the AirTag trackers today. The updated firmware has the build number 1A301.
At this time, it is unknown what new features the firmware will add, as Apple has not released any release notes. It is not possible to force an AirTag update, as it is done through a connected iPhone. To make sure the update is performed, you can bring your AirTag within range of your iPhone, but you will have to wait for the firmware to roll out to your device. You can check your current AirTag firmware version through the Find My app.
New AirTag firmware is being rolled out gradually
You can find instructions for this in our step-by-step guide. In addition, you should take into account that Apple is rolling out the firmware update gradually, so not every user can access it right away. In fact, 1 % of AirTag users will receive the update today, 10 % on May 3rd, 25 % on May 9th, and it will be released to everyone on May 13th. This staggered schedule allows Apple to make sure the firmware update works as intended before distributing it to all users. Are you looking for suitable AirTag cases? Then take a look at Amazon.
