Apple opened its books this evening and was able to slightly exceed its sales forecast. Cupertino exceeded expectations with earnings of $2.18 per share. Analysts on average had forecast earnings of $2.10.
Apple generated 53.8 billion US dollars and posted a profit of 10.04 billion US dollars. In the third quarter of the 2018 fiscal year, sales were 53.3 billion US dollars and profits were 11.5 billion US dollars. The iPhone business is said to have brought in 26 billion US dollars in the past quarter - around 12 percent less than in the previous year. As announced at the end of 2018, Apple did not provide exact sales figures.
Apple also announced a dividend payment of $0.77 per share - this will be paid to registered shareholders on August 15th. Apple has forecast sales of around $61-64 billion for the current quarter - analysts had expected around $60 billion. The share price rose by around three percent after the market closed.
