Apple's plans for iMessage on macOS have been the subject of speculation several times, and now there are indications that the app will be replaced by a Catalyst version.
The US blog 9to5mac has already revealed a number of new features in iOS 14. A corresponding version was already circulated at the beginning of the year, which revealed a large part of the upcoming iPhone operating system. Now there are indications in the code that Apple wants to replace the maOS version of iMessage with a Catalyst version based on iOS 14. iMessage was officially introduced in 2011 and has received some interesting features since then, including extensions, stickers and message effects. But macOS users still don't have access to them. With a Catalyst version based on iOS, however, that could change.
Confirmation could come at WWDC 2020
This means that iMessage would be on the same level on both iOS / iPadOS and macOS and would therefore have all previous functions. The future implementation of new features would also take place on all three platforms at the same time, as Catalyst enables the porting of iOS to macOS. Of course, Catalyst applications have some limitations, but in this case it would be the perfect solution for Mac users. Due to the recent discovery, the change is now expected to be introduced this fall. We will probably get final confirmation on June 22nd (WWDC 2020) when Apple presents iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, watchOS 7 and the next major version of macOS (macOS 10.16).
