The iPhone X showed us how it's done - Face ID has it. Now the iPad is expected to have facial recognition, and Macs, among other things, could soon be unlocked with a smile.
There were doubts at first, but the iPhone X quickly convinced people. Anyone who had the pleasure of using Face ID would never want to be without it. According to the rumors, not only the next iPhone generation will get Apple's 3D facial recognition, but also the eagerly awaited iPad Pro.
Always ready in sleep mode
Apple's first patent application for Face ID in the Mac was filed before the iPhone X was launched. The latest patent describes Mac devices that continuously search for familiar faces while in sleep mode. This would also be 3D facial recognition. This feature would act as a background activity on the Mac so that it would always be ready for authentication while in sleep mode.
Versatile gesture control
Furthermore, evidence of gesture control was found. This means that the Macs can be controlled with the head, torso and arms. The patent also states that the inventors of this technology are people who work at PrimeSense. This company developed Microsoft's Kinect sensor and was bought by Apple in 2013. It should be clear that Face ID will be found in Macs at some point - it remains to be seen when that will happen.
