What comes after the smartphone? What will be the next big thing? Many people are asking themselves this question. The smartphone boom seems to be gradually cooling down. Many users have been using their devices for several years now – a problem which not only Apple has to struggle with.
A few months ago, discussions about foldable smartphones began. What advantages could such a device have? Who would be interested in such a device? Now the portal patentlyapple.com has found an Apple patent that shows Apple's interest in the topic. According to the patent, the US Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple a patent application for a technology that enables the iPhone to be folded.
Is the iPhone Pro coming?
It is an open secret that Apple is always researching new technologies. This time, a device is being discussed that will turn an iPhone into an iPad. According to the description, important components such as the microphone and speaker will be built into the display. The speaker membrane will be the display itself. The images show that Apple is considering more than one folding mechanism. The device can be folded outwards and inwards, and it is also possible to fold it three times. It can therefore be assumed that Apple is planning a type of iPhone Pro with this technology - the device could not only function as an iPhone, but could also be converted into an iPad at will. The idea behind it sounds exciting, but whether Apple will actually bring a foldable iPhone onto the market remains to be seen. It is not uncommon for many such ideas to never make it into finished products. (Image: iStock by Getty Images)
