The Apple Watch has already proven to be very valuable thanks to its many useful features. But Apple is of course continuing to research. A patent has now been discovered that reveals Apple's ideas for cyclists.
Apple first filed a patent in March 2017 entitled "Apple Watch Invention Aims to Extend Activities and Monitoring Data for Cyclists." As reported by Patently Apple, it was only recently approved. According to the report, Cupertino is working on a feature that will allow the Apple Watch to monitor the wearer while cycling, including the ability to measure the amount of wind resistance generated while cycling. The patent states: report:
The patent granted by Apple was intended to extend Apple Watch activities and monitoring to cycling. It discloses improved techniques and systems for determining the resistance components experienced by an Apple Watch wearer during an activity such as cycling or running. By monitoring data with Apple Watch, improved estimates could be derived for various factors that contribute to the resistance experienced by the user during the activity.
The effort should be calculated
The patent also contains details that a wearable device - in this case the Apple Watch - would also track the wearer's heart rate. With the help of motion sensors, the Apple Watch could also track position and orientation. But why measure wind resistance? This question can be answered as follows. If the Apple Watch measured wind resistance, the smartwatch would be able to accurately calculate the cyclist's effort. Wind resistance is a key factor in this calculation, as is the angle of ascent or descent. In fact, Apple seems to have been working on such a feature for a long time. However, since this is a patent, the whole thing could end up remaining just an idea. (Photo by New Africa / Bigstockphoto)
