According to a new patent, Apple is working on a glass keyboard – could such technology replace the butterfly keyboard?
The new third generation butterfly keyboard should make all users happy and not repeat the mistakes of its predecessors - that is Apple's plan. Each key has a silicone protector. This is supposed to reduce typing noise and prevent dust and crumbs from getting inside. Statements can be read again and again that the new keyboard is not error-free either - a exchange program running.
A patent application granted by Apple by the US Patent and Trademark Office shows how the company could solve the problem with the much-discussed butterfly keyboard on MacBooks. In order to prevent dust and other things from getting in, glass would be a possible solution - according to the patent, Apple is working on a keyboard made of glass - the special thing about it is that it has no keys. The patent registered by Apple describes a component made of glass. The surface has individual raised areas that have a touch function and a display. This would have the advantage that the keyboard can be adapted to individual apps - similar to the principle of the Touch Bar. A force touch mechanism could give the user the feeling of typing on a classic keyboard. The well-known trackpad is also to be installed in the form of the new technology. If Apple succeeds in developing such a keyboard, future MacBooks could be even thinner. In addition, all known problems with the butterfly keyboard should be history in one fell swoop. Such a keyboard technology sounds exciting and would probably be feasible for Apple. Nevertheless, patents should always be treated with caution. It is not uncommon that many such ideas never make it into finished products.
