Apple recently acquired the music recognition service Shazam. It has now been announced that the iGroup bought the Danish startup Spektral at the end of 2017.
It is already known that Apple buys startups from time to time. However, this is not always made known or only much later - as in the current case. According to media reports, Apple paid around 31 million US dollars for the most recent acquisition.
What is Spectral?
The Denmark-based company is considered a specialist in the field of photo effects. The technology behind it can separate people, animals and objects in the foreground from the background of the image. This simplifies editing a photo. Image backgrounds can be exchanged as desired or the people, animals and objects themselves can be placed on new photos. The technology includes machine learning.
Such a feature would significantly improve the iPhone's camera. What Apple ultimately intends to do with the newly acquired technology remains to be seen. As usual, the iCompany did not provide any information on the subject.
