Apple Music TV launched today as a 24-hour stream of music videos and music-related content modeled on the original MTV channel.
Without any announcement or major advertising tour, Apple Music TV was launched today. It is a 24-hour music video stream in the style of the original MTV channel. Variety according to The channel is available free of charge in the USA.
It will feature "exclusive new music videos and premieres, special curated music videos, live shows and events, as well as chart countdowns and guests."
The report continues:
The service debuted Monday morning (October 19) with a countdown of the 100 most played songs of all time in the US on Apple Music. On Thursday (October 22), the upcoming release of Bruce Springsteen's "Letter to You" album will be celebrated with an "all-day Bruce Takeover" featuring music videos of his most popular videos, an interview with Apple Music radio host Zane Lowe and a special livestream fan event.
There will also be two exclusive video premieres on Friday, Joji's '777' and Saint Jhn's 'Gorgeous'; the channel will premiere new videos every Friday at this time.
Further details were scarce ahead of the launch, but Lowe's involvement implies a link between the new TV channel and the radio station Apple Music 1 (formerly called Beats 1), its presenters and its programming section, which is focused on hits but offers adventurous programming largely overseen by Lowe. The fact that the channel is launching with a heritage artist such as Springsteen, however, means a difference in reach."
Apple Music TV not available in Germany
Apple Music TV is available via the Apple TV app. However, the service is only available to US customers. It is currently unknown when the brand new music TV channel will debut in this country. The concept of a 24-hour music video TV channel was introduced by MTV in 1981. However, the channel later gave up on the whole thing and focused on other content. (Photo by nikkimeel / Bigstockphoto)
