In an update to a support document today, Apple clarified which of its devices offer support for Spatial Audio playback in Apple Music. Although Apple has said in the past that older devices like the iPhone XR and iPad Air 3 support Spatial Audio in Apple Music, that now appears not to be the case.
Apple has made the change in the respective support document after the company released an update for the Apple Music Android app. The whole thing was reported by Twitter user Holger Eilhard discovered. Before today's update, the support document indicated that Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos is supported in Apple Music on the following devices:
- The built-in speakers on an iPhone XR or later (except iPhone SE), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation or later), iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad (6th generation or later), iPad Air (3rd generation or later), or iPad mini (5th generation)
