As 2020 draws to a close, Apple has released top lists for podcasts, the App Store, and now Apple Music. The company today announced the top song and album of 2020, as well as the top 100 charts of the most popular songs of the year.
The top song of 2020 was Roddy Ricch's "The Box," which was played 13.7 million times worldwide in its debut week alone. The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" was the number two most popular song, followed by Tones And I's "Dance Monkey" and DaBaby's "ROCKSTAR." The top album was Roddy Ricch's "Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial" and the second most streamed album was Lil Baby's "My Turn." Pop Smoke's "Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon" came in third, Lil Uzi Vert's "LUV vs. World 2" was number four and Summer Walker's album "Over It" was the number five top albums of 2020. Tones And I's "Dance Monkey" was the Shazamed song of 2020 while Cardi B's "WAP" had the most looked up lyrics - according to Apple.

Apple also shared some interesting data about the places where songs were first Shazamed. The 20 most streamed songs of the year were originally Shazamed in 19 different cities and 11 countries. The top 100 songs were first tagged in 70 different markets worldwide and 29 countries. The Apple Music app also has full charts with the top 100 songs of 2020 worldwide, the 100 most read lyrics, and the 100 Shazamed songs. The latter two charts were only introduced this year.
