Apple's highly anticipated classical music app is available today in the App Store and can be pre-ordered ahead of its release in late March.
In 2021, Apple announced that it had purchased the classical music streaming service Primephonic and would integrate it into Apple Music with a new app for the genre. "Apple Music Classical" is now available in the App Store and is scheduled for release on March 28, 2023. Users can download the app now pre-orderto download it when it's available. It's included free with an Apple Music or Apple One subscription.
Apple Music Classical launches at the end of March
In a conversation with TechCrunch explained Apple said the new Apple Music Classical app will give Apple Music subscribers access to more than five million classical music tracks, including high-quality new releases, hundreds of curated playlists, thousands of exclusive albums, and other features like composer biographies and deeper insights into key works. The app offers a simpler interface to interact specifically with classical music. Unlike the existing Apple Music app, Apple Music Classical lets users search by composer, work, conductor, catalog number, and more. Editorial notes and descriptions provide users with more detailed information.
An Android version is also planned
For the app, Apple commissioned high-resolution digital portraits of famous composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin and Johann Sebastian Bach, using color palettes and artistic references from their respective classical eras. Apple says it has worked with classical music artists and institutions to offer exclusive content and recordings. Apple Music Classical will initially only support iOS devices with iOS 15.4 or later. A version of the app for Android will be available "soon". Users can follow news and updates about Apple Music Classical via the new Twitter account @appleclassical. (Image: Apple)
