Apple has somewhat unexpectedly introduced the first external MagSafe battery for the iPhone 12 series. Interestingly, it has a unique feature that has been reported on for a long time but has never been introduced in an Apple product: reverse charging.
In recent months, there have been repeated rumors that Apple is working on its own MagSafe battery. Now, somewhat surprisingly, the company has introduced a corresponding product. The new accessory costs around 109 euros and can conveniently charge an iPhone 12 model on the go. Apple's external MagSafe battery can charge an iPhone via MagSafe even if the pack is connected to a power adapter with 20W or more. In this case, it delivers up to 15W of power. If charging is carried out on the go, the maximum power is 5W.
iPhone 12 MagSafe Battery: The first step towards reverse charging
But as Apple's latest support document shows, the iPhone can also charge the battery pack - so this is wireless reverse charging. is called it in it:
You can also charge both by connecting your MagSafe Battery to your iPhone and then plugging your iPhone into a power source. You should choose this route if you need to connect your iPhone to another device while charging, such as when using wired CarPlay or transferring photos to a Mac.

Anyway. So this is the first case where an iPhone can charge an external accessory. While the device has to be attached to the cable in this case, it is the first step towards a more comprehensive reverse wireless charging feature that we will see at some point in the future. (Image: Apple)
