Although Apple's AirPods receive frequent firmware updates, there is no direct way to update them. The entire process is done in the background. However, the company now seems to be working on a tool that will allow you to update the AirPods firmware manually. However, it will not be available to every user.
As the leaker “Fudge” on Twitter reported, the company has developed a new tool called the "AirPods Firmware Updater" which, as the name suggests, forces a manual firmware update for the AirPods devices - but this only includes the AirPods Pro. However, this tool is not available to all users. According to Fudge, Apple has developed the AirPods Firmware Updater exclusively for Apple technicians who work in Apple Stores or authorized repair centers.
AirPods Firmware Updater: Will Apple make the tool publicly available at some point?
This allows technicians to restore and update the firmware if there are any issues with an AirPods Pro product to fix the problem without having to replace the product. There are no details on how this tool works or how exactly it connects to the AirPods. However, it does show that Apple can improve the AirPods firmware update process. However, it is not known whether the tool will eventually be available to all users and the entire AirPods lineup. (Photo by wabeno / Bigstockphoto)
