A strange error message is currently circulating around the globe. Many users are reporting that their Apple ID has suddenly been blocked.

The phenomenon has been going around since around midnight (EST). More and more users are reporting an error message stating that their Apple account has been blocked. Affected users suddenly receive the message on their iPhone, iPad or Mac devices: "This Apple ID has been blocked for security reasons." The result is that iCloud and all other Apple services are unavailable.

Affected users must reactivate their Apple ID via the official Apple Account website. Identity verification by answering security questions is required - the password must then be reset.

Anyone who uses the 2FA security feature must also use the phone number or a trusted device. Finally, the Apple ID must be logged in again on all linked devices.

cause of the error message

The cause of the error message is not yet known. Initial rumors about a hacker attack or massive server problems have already been spotted online. AppleInsider claims to have been told by an Apple employee that it is not a bug. The exact comment is: "At the moment it does not look like an Apple bug. Whatever it is, it only affects a small percentage of users." An official statement from Apple is still pending.
