Apple today emailed customers who purchased a standard AppleCare plan for their Apple TV devices to inform them that coverage has been extended from two years to three years.
Customers who purchased AppleCare for Apple TV will now receive a total of three years of coverage, based on the date they originally purchased the plan (via MacRumors). The end date of AppleCare for Apple TV will be adjusted automatically. In the emails, Apple does not specify why it is extending AppleCare plans for Apple TV.
AppleCare+ for Apple TV now available
But it could be related to the transition to AppleCare+ for Apple TV that Cupertino made available along with the launch of the second generation Apple TV 4K. AppleCare+ for Apple TV offers three years of protection as well as coverage for two accidental damages. However, the existing AppleCare plans that are currently being renewed do not include coverage for accidental damages.
