It was recently reported that Hyundai Motor wanted to hand over the Apple Car project to Kia. Now the company has spoken out and made an interesting statement. is called it at Reuters:
South Korean automaker Kia Corp. said on Wednesday it is exploring collaborations with several foreign companies on self-driving electric cars.
Kia's comment, released in a regulatory filing as the company's shares rose nearly 20 percent in Seoul, came after domestic online publication Edaily reported late Tuesday that Kia's parent company, Hyundai Motor Group, had decided that Kia should be in charge of its planned collaboration with Apple on electric cars.
The announcement is still years away
As already mentioned, earlier this week claimedthat Hyundai wants to hand over the Apple Car project to Kia. Although Kia did not mention Apple by name in its statement, it can be assumed that Cupertino is also involved. As a reminder: Hyundai confirmed talks with Apple a few days ago, but withdrew them a day later. If reports from Bloomberg and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo are to be believed, the Apple Car will not be presented before 2027/2028. Accordingly, the rumor mill will be with us for a long time to come.
