Apple has long been the most expensive publicly traded company in the world.
Apple could have broken the one trillion US dollar market capitalization mark a long time ago. Various share buybacks and dividend payments have repeatedly set the company back. The company has already bought back shares worth over 201 billion US dollars since 2012. Dividend payments in the same period have now been put at 67.2 billion US dollars.
Yesterday, Apple's market capitalization was quoted at over 990 billion US dollars. So it wasn't far off. The good quarterly results drove the stock further up. Today, the share was able to overcome the 203.45 US dollar mark in trading, helping the bitten apple to become the first American trillion-dollar company on the stock exchange.
