A particularly serious bug in the current iOS version has prompted Apple to make a lightning-fast deal.
The Twitter account @BmManski discovered a mistake in Facetime and made it public last night. According to him, Apple was informed about the faux pas almost a week ago.
The error makes it possible to tap into the microphone of another caller via Facetime. To use the bug, a contact must be called via Facetime – assuming the caller does not answer immediately. While the cell phone is ringing, the caller must add another contact. Here, the caller's own phone number is entered. Once this has been done, the microphone starts transmitting – while the called party's phone continues to ring. The bug was only present on devices that Support Group Facetime represent.
Apple publishes statement
To prevent further abuse, Apple has temporarily deactivated the group FaceTime function on the server side. The statement indicates that Cupertino has already found a solution and will fix it with a software update later this week.
