Apple and Major League Soccer have announced pricing and availability of the MLS streaming service, which will be available via the Apple TV app starting February 1, 2023 – in time for the start of the season on February 25.
The subscription, called “MLS Season Pass,” unlocks access to all MLS games, live and on demand. The price for the service amounts $14.99 per month or $99 per season. Apple TV+ subscribers can watch some games for free and get the MLS Season Pass at a discounted price. The discount on the MLS Season Pass for Apple TV+ subscribers is significant. TV+ subscribers can get the pass for $12.99 per month or $79 per year. Like TV+, the MLS Season Pass can be shared with up to six people using Family Sharing. Customers can cancel and re-subscribe at any time.
MLS Season Pass: Apple TV+ subscribers benefit
As an added bonus, a free subscription to the MLS Season Pass is included in MLS clubs' full-season ticket packages. Additionally, some games will be streamed for free on the Apple TV app, including all games from the opening weekend "MLS is Back." The MLS Season Pass will stream all MLS and Leagues Cup games, as well as most MLS Next Pro and MLS NEXT games. There are no blackouts or regional restrictions, and the service will be available in more than 100 countries at launch. Each game will be accompanied by a pre- and post-show. The service will also offer live coverage on game days. Games can be rewatched on demand afterward, and other content such as highlight packages will also be available. Games will be broadcast simultaneously in English and Spanish, with a dedicated broadcast team for each language. The home team's radio stream will also be available as an audio option in the TV app.
Apple and MLS partnership runs until 2032
The Canadian teams' games will also be broadcast in French. The MLS Season Pass can be accessed via the Apple TV app, which is available on Apple devices, smart TVs, PlayStation, Xbox, set-top boxes such as Comcast Xfinity and more. You can also watch TV via a web browser at tv.apple.com. The Apple TV app will also be released for Windows PCs next year. However, an Android app is not planned. The contract between Apple and the MLS runs for ten years, until 2032. The partnership includes extensive marketing measures, such as the Apple TV logo on the jerseys of all teams. Apple will pay at least $250 million per year for the streaming rights, with additional revenue flowing to the league if target subscriber numbers are reached. (Image: Apple)
