Former German App Store manager Tom Sadowski has published a new book with Murmann Verlag called "App Store Confidential: A personal look behind the scenes of Apple's most important business." But Apple fears that secrets will be revealed, which is why the company now wants to ban the title.
Apple's lawyers are currently trying to stop a book that they believe reveals confidential business secrets. Apple's legal department is said to have instructed both the former German App Store Manager Tom Sadowski and the Murmann publishing house to stop publishing the new book "App Store Confidential". Apple is demanding that copies that have already been delivered be recalled and all manuscripts destroyed. But so far neither the author nor the publisher have responded to Apple's request. Focus explains:
According to information from the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”, Apple believes that the work of manager Tom Sadowski reveals “trade secrets” that are of “significant economic value” to the company.
But "App Store Confidential" is supposed to be just a personal review by the manager. While Sadowski is not aware of any guilt, Apple explains to "Die Zeit":
Apple has long supported a free press and supports authors of all kinds." Sadowski had "violated his employment relationship." The company's "employment policies" were applied "equally and fairly" to all employees.
"App Store Confidential"
The book "App Store Confidential" was published in Germany on Tuesday and is intended to provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the App Store works from the former manager's perspective. Specifically, it describes Sadowski's journey at Apple and shares his own experience working in the App Store as well as his meetings with Apple CEO Tim Cook. Tom Sadowski worked for Apple for around 10 years and was temporarily responsible for iTunes marketing in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Most recently, he headed the German App Store until November 2019. He now advises companies on apps and monetization. If you are interested in the book, you can find both the Kindle edition and a paperback version on Amazon. (Image: MurmannVerlag)
