Apple has yesterday evening the fifth beta of iOS 13, iPadOS and tvOS 13 for developers was released. Of course, some bugs were fixed and changes were made in the course of the updates.
Overall, the fifth beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS added fewer new features than previous versions. However, they are still important and interesting - we have listed a few of the bigger ones below.
- iPad home screen – With the latest version of iPadOS, users can customize their iPad's home screen themselves. The entire app grid can be set to 4×5 or 6×5. This results in the applications being visually smaller or larger. If you select "More" in the settings, up to 30 smaller app icons are displayed. Users who choose "Larger" can only look forward to 20 app icons - but these are displayed larger.
- Share Sheet function – The Share Sheet function has also been revised in the fifth beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS. Apple has added additional sections to this important feature. You can now find “Favorite shortcuts”, “Currently opened app” and “Other actions”. Each of these sections has been divided into groups to make it easier to navigate through the various options.
- shortcuts – Federico Vittici from MacStories also discovered a particularly interesting detail about shortcuts. Users can now add shortcuts to the favorites list in the Share Sheet.
- shortcuts Application – If you are looking for the “Automation” section, you will have to be patient. It has been temporarily removed from the Shortcuts app. The area is planned to be reactivated in a later beta version of iOS 13.
- Home app – The fifth beta of iOS 13 also refreshes the Home app once again. Users can now choose between new backgrounds within the iOS application.
- dark mode – After completing the installation of the fifth iOS 13 beta, the user is asked whether iOS should switch to light or dark mode. This is a feature that should be rolled out to users after the initial installation of iOS 13. In addition, the animation when switching between the two display modes has been revised - the transition is now smoother.
- exercise goals – New achievements for movement goals have been added to the Activities app in the current beta. These are unlocked once the user has reached their movement goal 1250, 1500, 1750 and 2000 times.
- volume – As part of the fifth beta of iOS 13 and iPadOS, the redesigned volume icon has been revised again. Users can now adjust the volume of their iPhone or iPad even more precisely, as the control now has 34 volume levels. If the sound is completely maximized or minimized, the device confirms the change using haptic feedback.
Notice: As usual, a beta should not be installed on an actively used device, as the first beta versions of major updates are usually quite unstable - we recommend a second device for this. We also advise against searching for beta profiles on the Internet as an unregistered developer - that's what the Public Beta Program is for.
