iOS 16 Beta 2 is now available and includes a number of changes and optimizations of the new features that Apple announced at WWDC.
It is important to note that iOS 16 Beta 2 was probably completed and released before WWDC. Apple is providing the beta versions ready for internal testing several weeks in advance before being released to developers. This means that if you have specific bugs or requests, you can expect to see changes in Beta 3 at the earliest. It's also worth noting that changes and improvements are linear, especially in the early betas. This means that something that worked in iOS 16 Beta 1 may not work in iOS 16 Beta 2. As always, proceed with caution and use a second device!
New features in iOS 16 Beta 2
- Apple has updated the process of editing and creating new lock screens. There is now a clear way to delete lock screens you no longer want by swiping up and tapping the trash can.
- There are also some changes to the wallpaper selection in the Settings app to make it clear which wallpaper you are changing.
- When you set a new photo as your wallpaper, Apple now shows you the option to adjust the crop of the wallpaper by dragging it in or out.
- There are two new filter options for setting photos as wallpaper: Duotone and Color Wash.
- The dynamic astronomy wallpaper has been updated to show a bright green dot on the map indicating your current location.
- There are improvements in SMS filtering for messages.
- iOS 16 Beta 2 brings support for iCloud backups over LTE and 5G.
- The dynamic Earth wallpaper is now available on older devices like the iPhone XS and iPhone XR.
- The system video player in iOS 16 now allows you to long-press and scroll through a video.
- Apple Cash has a redesigned interface that displays account balances and includes options for the send and request buttons.
- The Apple Card interface in the Wallet app now shows a summary of daily/weekly/monthly rewards earnings. (Note: The service is not available in Germany!)
If anything else comes up in the next few days, leaks in the code are discovered or something similar, we will of course write about it as always. Whether your device is compatible with the new software, you can find out here. (Photo by yalcin.sonat / Bigstockphoto)
