Apple released new betas of iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 for developers on Tuesday evening. They revised some features from previous betas and, in the case of iPadOS 16.1, added an important new feature for the Stage Manager.
Let's jump right in. Apple has updated the Wallpapers section of the Settings app to allow users to switch between wallpapers from that interface. It has also revamped the design so that the options for adding new wallpapers are clearer.
Stage Manager
In the latest beta of iPadOS 16.1, Apple has expanded the availability of Stage Manager to the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pro models with A12Z and A12X chips. Previously, Stage Manager was limited to the M1 iPad Pro and M1 iPad Air models. Apple has also removed support for external displays from Stage Manager in this beta. The feature is expected to be added in a future update for iPadOS 16. When it is reintroduced, support for external displays will be limited to the M1 iPad models.
Matter accessories
The Matter Accessories section, which was added to the Settings app in previous betas, has been removed.
emergency SOS via satellite
Apple is beginning preparations for the integration of emergency SOS via satellite and "Find My" satellite, a feature that will be available for iPhone 14 models in the US starting in November. If further innovations emerge, we will report on them. The official launch of iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 will take place sometime in October. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
