During the iOS 12.2 beta phase, several references to previously unreleased devices and services were discovered.
In the fifth beta of iOS 12.2 Traces of AirPower have already been found. According to this, Apple has updated the software for controlling AirPower again with the penultimate beta version. Now, in the recently released iOS 12.2 beta, there are further indications of the existence of the Qi charging mat. The AirPower component has been updated again with the sixth version of the developer beta. This time, it is a major update in the code. This suggests that Apple is preparing to introduce AirPower. In view of the latest rumors about the upcoming keynote and Apple's current approach to product launches, it is actually possible that Cupertino will present the charging mat soon.
If this happens this week, sales will most likely not start until next week – using AirPower requires at least iOS 12.2 on a compatible iPhone.
How AirPower works
At the end of January there were reports that AirPower was mass production passed - another indication. The release of iOS 12.2 and Co. is expected next Monday. During the charging process, the user is free to choose the position in which to place the device - there is no need to stick to a specific zone. If an iPhone is placed on the charging device during the charging process, it acts as a charge level indicator - this is made possible by AirPower's ability to automatically detect the largest device.
