A bug is warning some AirPods Pro 2 users to replace the battery soon, according to various online reports.
The bug appears to trigger notifications via the Find My app on nearby devices when the AirPods Pro earbuds or MagSafe Charging Case are low on battery. The second-generation AirPods Pro have improved Find My functionality thanks to a U1 chip for precision finding and report their battery level at all times, so it's likely that the message is related to these new features. The notifications prompt the user to "replace the battery on... soon," although it's not possible to replace the AirPods' batteries and the device just needs to be charged. Users affected by the bug may not immediately know it's their AirPods Pro, as the device is simply referred to as "left," "right," or "case" in the notifications, resulting in somewhat incoherent alerts.
AirPods Pro 2: Future software update will fix the bug
The notifications are similar to those used for the AirTag when the CR2032 battery is low and needs replacing, so it seems like the system is confusing the two products. One theory is that Apple used much of the AirTag firmware for the MagSafe charging case, resulting in identical alerts, even if they don't make sense. Users have complained on various forums and on Reddit complained about the error. It remains unclear how widespread the problem is. Even though Apple has not yet confirmed the error, it will probably be fixed in due course with a software update. (Image: Apple)
