The repair specialists at iFixit have now published the full teardown of the AirPods Max, demonstrating Apple's "obsessive craftsmanship" that makes other products look "like toys in comparison."
The AirPods Max have been available in stores since December 15th. Now the guys from iFixit have finally released the complete teardown provided. It was immediately noted that the headbands of the new over-ear headphones are easy to remove with a simple SIM needle. This easy disassembly contrasts with the complexity of some AirPods Pro components. The electromechanical hinge is described by the repair specialists as "both complicated and over-engineered". This technology used and the associated design could even justify the high price, according to iFixit.

Components are "complicated" and "precision-manufactured"
Other components are not as easy to disassemble as the headband, but user repair is still possible. To get to the actual ear cups, some special screwdrivers and melting glue are required. Although the process takes some time, it can be done by any user. A technician is therefore not required. However, to access the battery and lightning connector, the headphones must be completely disassembled. The teardown concludes by comparing the design of the AirPods Max to a mechanical watch. The components are "complicated," "precision-engineered," and the design is more complicated than other headphones. Despite the complexity, however, the AirPods Max are "surprisingly repairable."

AirPods Max: Service-friendly features convince
Some parts, like the easily removable ear pads and headband, are even described as “DIY-friendly.” iFixit explains:
And after examining some competitors, we have more understanding for the $550 price tag. Sony and Bose both charge less, but internally, the AirPods Max's obsessive craftsmanship makes those other extremely capable devices look like toys by comparison.
Due to these service-friendly features, iFixit has given the AirPods Max a repair rating of six points. As a reminder: previous AirPods products have all received a zero rating. The headphones are available in five colors, including space gray, silver, sky blue, green and pink. Cost: 612.70 euros. In addition to Apple Amazon also sells the new audio accessories.
