The AirPods Max have been on the market for a few years now, and since their launch in December 2020, they have captured the hearts of many audiophiles. But the rumor mill is churning and it seems that Apple will be releasing a brand new version next year. Here's a look at what we can expect from the AirPods Max 2, as well as some of the features we're hoping to see.
One of the first innovations we can look forward to is the introduction of a USB-C port. According to information from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple will replace the current Lightning port with a USB-C port. This move is intended to ensure that the headphones comply with European regulations while also unifying Apple's entire AirPods family. This means that the AirPods Max 2 will ship with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable and a USB-C to 3.5mm audio accessory cable must be offered to connect the headphones to conventional audio devices.
Bluetooth 5.3
Another exciting upgrade is the new Bluetooth 5.3 capabilities. This specification is already integrated into the AirPods Pro 2, the iPhone 15 series and the latest models of the Apple Watch. It promises improved wireless connectivity and greater energy efficiency. Although support for LE Audio has not yet been officially announced, it is likely that Apple will integrate this technology into the AirPods Max 2 as well. This could lead to impressive improvements in wireless audio playback.
AirPods Max in new colors
A 2023 report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple will offer the AirPods Max 2 in new colors. While the exact colors are not yet known, we can't wait to see what choices Apple has in store. So far, the AirPods Max are available in space gray, silver, green, sky blue, and pink, with the interchangeable ear cushions allowing for numerous color combinations.
AirPods Max 2024: What to hope for
While there are already some exciting improvements expected for the AirPods Max 2, fans are hoping for more innovations that could take the audio experience to the next level. Here are some of those hopes and wishes.
H2 chip
A wish of many users is the integration of the H2 chip. This silicon chip was developed by Apple specifically for earphones and headphones and offers improved audio calculation as well as increased battery life through improved energy efficiency. Although the H2 chip is already present in the AirPods Pro, there are currently no reports of it being integrated into the AirPods Max 2. However, the introduction of this chip could lead to features such as Adaptive Audio, personalized volume and further improved noise cancellation.
U2 chip and precision search
Another request from users concerns the integration of Apple's U2 Ultra Wideband chip, which would enable precise location of the AirPods when they are nearby. This would be particularly useful for the "Find My" app and could significantly reduce the worry of lost or misplaced AirPods.
Revised Smart Case
Finally, many are hoping that Apple will revamp the included Smart Case. The current AirPods Max case caused some controversy when it was released, as it received criticism in terms of protection and design. However, a patent from Apple hints at a possible revamp that could offer a more traditional and protective case.
So, overall, there are a lot of exciting new features and hopes for the AirPods Max 2. Although we still have to wait for official confirmation from Apple, we can already look forward to an exciting 2024 for audio lovers. The AirPods Max 2 promise to raise the bar for premium earphones and further enrich the Apple ecosystem. Stay tuned and don't miss the latest updates on this exciting product.
