Apple has started rolling out a new firmware version for the third generation of AirPods. The new firmware update that is now rolling out brings the AirPods 3 to version 4C170 and is the third update Apple has released since the earbuds were introduced last fall.
As things stand, Apple only seems to be updating the AirPods 3 this evening. The update has the version number 4C170, replacing 4C165. Unfortunately, as always, there are no release notes for the AirPods, so we're in the dark when it comes to knowing what's new. The firmware updates for AirPods, which appear at irregular intervals, are usually about bug fixes and performance improvements.
How to check the firmware version of your AirPods
If you want to know the current firmware version of your AirPods, all you have to do is connect the headphones to your iPhone and open the “General” section in the iOS settings. You can select the AirPods under “Info”. The earphones are usually updated automatically as soon as they are connected to a device and in use. However, the process can be delayed. In some cases, however, the update can also be forced immediately. To do this, connect the AirPods to a power source and pair them with an iPhone or iPad. The update could then start immediately. However, there is no guarantee. Do you want new headphones? Then take a look at our Amazon Storefront over – there we have all the current AirPods as well as Beats Models summarized for you.
