In the first half of 2020, LG published a support document promised, also wanting to provide 2018 TV models with an update for AirPlay 2 & HomeKit. Now the company seems to have changed its mind.
With AirPlay 2, users can stream videos, music, podcasts and more directly from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to a compatible LG Smart TV device without the need for an Apple TV. With HomeKit support, the devices can even be controlled via the Home app or optionally via Siri. When it was announced that LG TVs from 2018 would also receive AirPlay 2 & HomeKit, the fans were extremely excited. Specifically, this should apply to the LCD models with "SK" or "UK" in the name and all OLED models with "B8" to "Z8" in the name.
LG TV: Reason for change of plan remains unknown
The update was promised for October 2020 in the support document at the time. But now no one wants to know anything about it. When a user asked via Twitter when LG intends to roll out the update, he received the following Answer:
Hello, LG has no plans to add AirPlay 2 or HomeKit to its TVs before 2019. We apologize for the inconvenience!
The answer quickly brought the company a lot of scorn - and the trend is increasing. The 2018 models mentioned only recently received the Apple TV app, which is why fans were hoping for the two features to be added later. It is currently not known why LG changed its mind. The fact is - the company has quietly updated the support document at the time. revisedHowever, it remains to be seen whether it will comment publicly on this.
