Apple today released a new app called “Tracker Detect” on the Google Play Store. The app is designed to allow Android users to locate AirTags that may be nearby.
According to the app description, Tracker Detect looks for item trackers that are separated from their owner and compatible with the Find My network, allowing it to locate AirTags and other Find My-enabled devices like the Chipolo Bluetooth item tracker. Apple says Android users can perform a scan to find a nearby AirTag if they think someone is using an AirTag or other device to track their location.
Android users get more protection from AirTags and Co.
The app is designed to allay the fears of experts who worry that AirTags can be maliciously used to track people's locations. For iPhone users, Apple has already introduced several security features, including a warning that informs iPhone users when an AirTag that does not belong to them is tracking them. Before the introduction The Tracker Detect app did not offer such protection for Android users. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
