Adobe has rolled out a new Photoshop update (version 22.3) with native support for Apple Silicon Macs. The company promises users 1.5 times faster performance than when running the software via Rosetta emulation.
In November, Adobe released Photoshop with Apple Silicon support in a beta version. With update 22.3 announced today, Adobe is now officially adding Apple Silicon support. While Photoshop runs natively on M1 Macs, there are some limitations. Users have the option to run Photoshop as a native Apple Silicon application or under Rosetta emulation. However, certain features will not be available in native mode. Adobe explains that the ability to import, export, and play embedded videos is not supported on Apple Silicon. Features such as preset syncing, the camera shake reduction filter, and the Share an Image button also do not currently work.
Photoshop for Apple Silicon: Adobe lists known issues
In the process, Adobe has also addressed some known issues listedthat beta users have reported for native Apple Silicon support. Adobe explains that the ability to copy and paste edits between an Adobe app running natively on Apple Silicon and one running on Rosetta emulation is not currently supported. As a solution, the company recommends that users run both apps in the same mode, either native Apple Silicon or Rosetta emulation. In addition to Apple Silicon support, the update includes general and expected bug fixes and improvements.
