15 years ago today, the iPhone, the revolutionary device presented to the world by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, officially went on sale.
The first iPhone was announced by Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007 and went on sale on June 29, 2007. Jobs said during the keynote:
An iPod, a telephone, a mobile Internet device – these are not three different devices.
Since its debut, the iPhone has changed the world and the mobile technology industry forever.
Steve Jobs: Today Apple will reinvent the phone
After its launch on June 29, 2007, it took just 74 days for Apple to announce that it had sold over 1 million iPhones. The first iPhone cost $499. Fifteen years later, the iPhone has completely evolved: it has advanced features and cameras, as well as iOS and the App Store, that were not available on the first iPhone. In an interview published yesterday ahead of the anniversary, Apple's Greg Joswiak and other executives involved in the development of the iPhone talked about what it was like to launch the iPhone and how it shaped the industry for years to come.
