Apple updated the vintage list this week, adding the 2015 version of the 12-inch MacBook.
The vintage list contains devices that have not been sold for more than five but less than seven years, while the discontinued list contains devices that were discontinued more than seven years ago. Devices on the vintage list may continue to receive hardware service from Apple and its certified service providers, subject to the availability of repair components and as required by law.
Bye Bye 12-inch Retina MacBook
However, hardware service is no longer available for discontinued products. The 12-inch MacBook, also known as the "Retina MacBook," was intended as a smaller, lighter version of the MacBook Air and was equipped with an Intel Core M processor. It was the smallest Mac with a Retina display and also featured a fanless design. Apple continued to update the 12-inch MacBook in 2016 and 2017, but eventually discontinued it in 2019 in favor of the redesigned MacBook Air with Retina display because the two devices were quite similar.
