Apple boss Tim Cook announced a new initiative for “racial equality and justice” today via a Twitter post, with $100 million to be donated.
Apple plans to donate over $100 million to the fight for "racial equality and justice" to bring about real change. Apple CEO Tim Cook has now confirmed this. The Twitter post states:
The unfinished work of racial justice and equity calls all of us to account. Things must change, and Apple is committed to being a force for that change. Today, I'm proud to announce the Apple Initiative for Racial Equity and Justice with a $100 million commitment.
Number of colored employees to be increased
According to Cook, the initiative will initially focus on the US before expanding globally at a later date. The whole thing is being led by Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives. According to the announcement, the company wants to focus in particular on the areas of education, economic equality and criminal justice reform in order to improve the lives of people of color and especially black communities. WWDC 2020 will also play an important role in this. As a new feature, a developer entrepreneur camp for black developers will be introduced. Finally, Cook also confirmed Apple's internal work, according to which Cupertino wants to significantly increase the number of employees of color. (Image: Apple)
