Apple unveiled iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 at WWDC 2021, introducing a number of useful features. But when will Apple release the new iPhone operating system to all users?
iOS 15 comes with a lot of great features. There are a number of new features for FaceTime, including SharePlay, video calling and web support for Android and Windows. There is the new Live Text feature in the Camera and Photos app, the new Focus mode, redesigned notifications, revamped Safari and much more more. As expected with a milestone release, the changes are far-reaching. Apple is continuing its push to protect users' privacy and security in the latest version. In addition to iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, watchOS 8 and macOS 12 Monterey are currently in the beta phase. But when exactly will the updates be available to all users?
iOS updates: An overview of the last few years
Apple usually releases major iOS updates after the September event. Of course, no event has been officially confirmed by Apple yet. But based on the last few years, we can predict an approximate date. In recent years, Apple has always officially rolled out iOS about a week after the September event. But last year, things went a little differently. Apple released iOS 14 directly one day after the "Time Flies" event. Here is an overview of the last four iOS generations:
- iOS 11 was released on September 19, 2017. The Apple event took place on September 12.
- iOS 12 was released on September 17, 2018. The Apple event took place on September 12.
- iOS 13 was released on September 19, 2019. The Apple event took place on September 10.
- iOS 14 was released on September 16, 2020. The Apple event took place on September 15.
When will Apple introduce iOS 15?
So if Apple stays true to itself, which is currently expected, the company would have to hold its event in the second week of September. If this happens and Apple releases the update the next day like last year, we could get the public version of iOS 15 as early as September 15. Of course, the whole thing could also be delayed a bit. Then a debut in the third or even fourth week of September would be possible. In general, however, it can be assumed that the update will be rolled out in the middle of next month.
