The annual Apple September event is over, the new iPhone and Apple Watch generation as well as a small iPad were released. Was that it for this year? No, we don't think so.
In recent years, Apple has always held two fall events - while new iPhones and Apple Watch models were introduced in September, we have so far been able to look forward to new iPad Pro and Mac models in October. In addition to rumors, there are also other indications that point to a second event. But what exactly should we start with? Let's take the fourth generation iPad Pro.
iPad Pro 4
In recent weeks, rumors have been circulating about new iPad Pro models. Unfortunately, these differ in two key points - features and launch date. While one camp assumes that Apple will present the new iPad Pro in October with a triple camera, the other camp believes that it will be presented in spring 2020. They also claim to have learned that the iPad Pro will not come with a triple camera, but with a 3D camera. The new module is said to be based on Time-of-Flight technology. But what is true? The reports come from various sources, all of which have one thing in common - their statements have often turned out to be true. Another indication of new iPad Pro models is the official EEC database. If manufacturers want to bring new devices onto the market, they must first be registered with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and that is exactly what Apple has done.
Apple usually registers this just a few months before the product is launched on the market. In the case of the alleged iPad Pro 2019 models, this was the case in the summer. Apple registered five new iPads in the EEC database at the beginning of July - the operating system is said to be iPadOS, according to the description. One model was introduced in September - the 10.2-inch tablet for a low price. So four more models are still missing. The iPad Pro is known to be available in two sizes: 11-inch and 12.9-inch. Both versions are available in WIFI and WIFI+Cellular versions. If you don't believe the rumors, this fact should make you sit up and take notice. Of course, no one can predict with any certainty which camera technology the new iPad Pro will be delivered with - but an October launch should still be realistic.
MacBook Pro 16″
Rumors about the iPhone 11 have been with us since January 2019 - almost at the same time, the first report about a MacBook Pro with a completely new design appeared. The rumors about the new notebook increased over the summer and many analysts and market observers now expect a presentation in October. But what exactly should the new MacBook Pro be able to do? Sources report an Apple laptop with an almost edgeless display - the screen is said to be around 16 inches in size. In addition to a new display, a new keyboard technology is also to be expected. Everyone should know the stories about Apple's butterfly keyboard by now. According to some rumors, the new keyboard is said to have been developed on the basis of scissor switches - i.e. with a real pressure mechanism like in previous years. Despite the old technology, the design of the upcoming keyboard is said to be completely new - Apple also wants to increase the durability of the keys. Fiberglass will supposedly be used here - this is reported by star analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, among others. You can find out everything we know so far about the supposed MacBook Pro 16 " here.
Apple TV
On November 1st, Apple's new streaming service Apple TV+ is set to launch and challenge established providers such as Netflix. At the beginning of the year, the company announced that it wanted to offer its HomeKit and AirPlay connections on devices from other manufacturers. If you used to need an Apple TV, you can now use AirPlay 2 and Co. with a compatible Smart TV. The device is stored in the Home application and can then be linked to the HomePod, for example. But that's not all. Apple's new Apple TV app is also set to be available on such TVs - Samsung made the launch. This will enable Cupertino to reach more people and thus further expand the new streaming service. When this innovation was announced, many fans thought that Apple would bury its popular Apple TV TV box. But there are now isolated indications that Cupertino could introduce a new Apple TV model - some even believe that the new box is not a box but a stick like Amazon's Fire Stick. But let's go with the latest rumor. According to this, the new Apple TV 5 will be equipped with an A12 chip. The device will also be released with an HDMI 2.1 port. The port would enable the transmission of 4K videos at 120 frames per second - Apple Arcade would also benefit from the new A-series chip and HDMI 2.1. The new TV box could possibly be presented in October. However, since there are hardly any solid rumors about it, the whole thing should be viewed with extreme skepticism. But with tvOS 13, the company is proving its interest in this product range - in our opinion, the Apple TV definitely has a future.
Apple Tags
A few months ago, a discovery in iOS 13 revealed that Apple was planning a tracker for personal items. This is intended to prevent the loss of keys and the like. Sources such as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have already commented on the new tracker and confirmed that Apple has something up its sleeve. These so-called "Apple Tags" feature ultra-wideband technology - this is also available in 2019 iPhones. Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a power-saving radio technology with short ranges, but it enables very precise location determination - especially indoors. Products such as Tile rely on Bluetooth - this allows for less precise location determination. The distance between two UWB devices can be measured much better, as this calculates the time it takes for a radio wave to travel between the two devices. But why should Apple introduce this accessory in October? You can find the answer in iOS 13. On September 20, the product was included in the code of the final iOS 13 version. found – the details were very extensive, which is why the functionality is now largely known. So the question is not whether the “Apple Tags” will come, but when.
Mac Pro & Pro Monitor
At WWDC 2019, Apple introduced two new hardware products - the new Mac Pro and Apple Pro Monitor XDR. The new devices are real high-end products from Apple - the Mac Pro 2019 and Apple Pro Monitor XDR are primarily intended to appeal to film studios and the like. The Mac Pro can be equipped with a new Intel Xeon processor and accommodate up to 28 cores. The new Apple Pro Monitor XDR is also impressive. The new backlight gives the display a brightness of up to 1600 nits. The 32" monitor offers a resolution of 6015 x 2284 - according to Apple, this is a 6K Retina display. Both devices are due to be released in the fall, according to the company. It can be assumed that Cupertino will take advantage of the opportunity to highlight both products again during a keynote and then have them finally launched. Alternatively, a press release would of course also be conceivable – but observers assume that both high-end machines are too important to be mentioned in just one press release.
closing remarks
The question of whether Apple will actually hold another keynote in October remains unanswered for the time being - as long as no concrete leaks emerge, we can only speculate. However, since rumors about new products and relevant clues have taken over, we can be optimistic.
Apple could of course decide differently at any time and introduce a new pattern – but at the moment it can be assumed that at the latest end of October Tim Cook will once again take the stage with the words “Good morning and welcome to the Steve Jobs Theatre”.
