Now that we're in September, the next Apple event is just around the corner. But which products will Apple actually present besides the iPhone 13? Below we summarize what we expect in September.
Before we delve into the individual products, we should first answer the question "When will the Apple event take place in September?" Based on our analysis and current rumors, it looks like the Apple event will take place on September 14th. If that is the case, Apple will send out invitations by September 7th at the latest. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, the event is expected to be held virtually this time too. We therefore assume that Apple will release a pre-recorded video.
iPhone 13
Unlike last year, when the iPhone 12 suffered from a delayed release in October and November, the iPhone 13 will likely be announced and shipped in September. But what can we expect from the iPhone 13? Rumors so far suggest that the iPhone 13 will have a similar design to the iPhone 12, but with a smaller notch. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are expected to offer interesting camera improvements as well as ProMotion displays with 120Hz refresh rates. Additionally, various reports say that larger batteries will be used.
Apple Watch Series 7
In addition to the iPhone 13, the Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to be unveiled. The new smartwatch is set to feature a completely new design. Rumor has it that it will have a flat design and be available in new sizes of 41mm and 45mm. Although health features are a key selling point for the Apple Watch, we don't expect any major updates in this area this year. Apple is said to be working on software updates for existing features, including blood oxygen measurement and irregular heart rhythm notifications. However, reports in late August threw a wrench into expectations.
Delays cannot be ruled out
Both Nikkei and Bloomberg reported that the Apple Watch Series 7 is facing production delays due to its new design. Of course, this could mean that the Apple Watch Series 7 will not be announced in September. However, it is more likely that the device will be unveiled alongside the iPhone 13 but will only be available at a later date and/or in very limited quantities.
iPad mini and entry-level iPad
While the iPad Pro was updated earlier this year, Apple has two more new iPads in the pipeline. Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple is working on a new iPad mini that will be released later this year. The device is expected to feature slimmer bezels and no home button, like the iPad Air 4. While many sources claim that the new iPads will be announced sometime in the fall, it's unclear if the announcement will happen during the September event or perhaps during a second event sometime in October or November.
Milestone updates: iOS 15 and Co.
In addition to new hardware, we also expect Apple to announce official release dates for the next software updates. We expect Apple to take another look at the new features of iOS 15 and watchOS 8 during the September event and announce official release dates. macOS Monterey will most likely not be released until October or November.
What about the new MacBook Pro models?
Anyone currently waiting for new MacBook Pro models will have to be patient. Rumors have it that Apple is planning to introduce 14- and 16-inch models in a new design with Apple Silicon processors. However, we do not expect Cupertino to unveil the devices in September. We assume that Apple will unveil new MacBook Pro devices at a second event in October or even November - possibly in combination with the iPad models mentioned above. Of course, a press release for this would also be conceivable. If you don't want to miss anything, you should download our app and activate push notifications.
