After countless rumors about new iPad Pro models, Apple introduced the fifth generation in spring 2021. There are now reports about the sixth generation, which is supposedly due to be released in 2022. But what innovations could the device offer? We have taken a look at all the reports and summarized them below.
According to various reports, Apple is planning to introduce a new iPad Pro next year. But what will the device offer? Let's get started.
design and display technology
So far, there is only one report that says the iPad Pro 6 will have a new design. In fact, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman claims that the next iPad Pro could have a glass back to enable wireless charging. What's more, according to Gurman's sources, the device could support the "reverse wireless charging" feature. This means that users could charge accessories such as AirPods and the like on the back of the iPad. In fact, it should be a MagSafe-like system. As for the display, Apple will likely keep two different sizes: 11-inch and 12.9-inch. The update would be more noticeable on the 11-inch model, as Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the company will replace the LCD panel with a miniLED display. Basically, Apple is expected to take the same step as it did with the large model in 2021.
processor
Some of you may remember the keynote at the time. When the company introduced the 2021 iPad Pro series, it caused a big surprise. Nobody expected Apple to give the iPad Pro the M1 chip. Until the official unveiling, everyone believed that the processor would be powerful but not part of the M series. But what does that mean for the successor? It is assumed that the iPad Pro 6 will have a better chip. It will probably be the so-called M2 processor, which, according to reports, will be released together with a brand new MacBook Air.
storage capacities
Alternatively, the Pro tablet could of course also get a version of the M1 Pro or M1 Max, although there is no indication of this. However, it is unlikely that Apple will return to an A-series chip variant, as the company markets the iPad Pro range with Mac power. In terms of storage capacities, Apple will probably keep the same options that were introduced this year. This means that the devices will probably be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage variants. However, the elimination of the 128GB version is not ruled out.
5G connectivity, battery and accessories
There have been no reports of 5G connectivity so far, so it's safe to assume that there will be little change in this regard compared to the fifth generation. When it comes to the battery, things are a little different. Since Mark Gurman is convinced that the next iPad Pro generation will support reverse wireless charging, it's safe to assume that Apple will increase battery capacity. This means that Apple would have to extend battery life and could pave the way for new MagSafe accessories such as a new Magic Keyboard, Smart Folio, and even a larger MagSafe charger.
When will Apple introduce the iPad Pro 6?
Little is currently known about the launch of the new iPad Pro series. Both Mark Gurman and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo are talking about 2022. However, no one was more specific. If the company follows the trend of 2021, it will probably be unveiled in the first half of 2022. An event in March or even April is already expected anyway. However, a later launch is not out of the question. So the whole thing should certainly remain exciting. Are you looking for new accessories?
