Apple has revised and improved many areas of the operating system in iOS 15. This also includes the weather app. In addition to new functions, the design has also been updated.
Apple acquired the Dark Sky weather app last year and, as expected, has now integrated some of the features into its own iOS application. In iOS 15, the Weather app shines in an updated design that makes it easier than ever to see the information users want to know at a glance. For example, the Weather app adopts the map-like interface that is also used for the Settings app and uses it to divide different information into sections. There is still a main view with the weather conditions on an hourly basis that users can navigate through. But the update also brings a revised 10-day forecast. The updated 10-day forecast shows the weather conditions to expect and has a bar that makes it easier to see the temperature throughout the day.
Weather app: Apple expands information scope
Scrolling down in the Weather app takes you to new weather modules where new graphical weather data has been added. There are values for air quality, temperature, UV index, sunset and sunrise, wind, precipitation, humidity, visibility and barometric pressure. For each of these modules, Apple provides graphics, context and more information than previously provided. For example, Cupertino shows the specific wind direction and provides details like when the next precipitation is expected, what the UV index will be throughout the day, temperature adjusted for humidity, dew point and more.
weather maps
Apple added full-screen weather maps in iOS 15 that provide at-a-glance data on expected precipitation, air quality, and temperature. You can get to the maps by tapping the standard temperature map and then tapping the stack to change the view to precipitation or air quality. Additionally, you can also access the weather maps from anywhere by tapping the small folded map icon in the bottom left corner of the app. The precipitation maps animate and show the path of incoming storms and the intensity of rain and snow, while the air quality and temperature maps show you the conditions in your area and the surrounding area. You can zoom in or out as far as you need. But air quality information is limited to Canada, mainland China, Germany, France, India, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
precipitation
If it's going to rain, snow or hail in the next hour, you'll be notified. You'll need to sign up for hourly precipitation alerts to receive notifications. Precipitation alerts are only available in the US, UK and Ireland. It's not known when the feature will be rolled out.
Animated backgrounds
To match the updated design of the Weather app, Apple offers thousands of new animated backgrounds that provide more information about the sun's position, rain, clouds, storms and other weather phenomena. The backgrounds change throughout the day and night. In fact, they shift depending on the weather. However, animated backgrounds are not available on all devices. availableAccording to Apple, the feature requires an A12 Bionic chip (iPhone XR, XS, XS Max or newer).
