The annual Apple Special Event is upon us, and September 12 is the highly anticipated event that kicks off. This year's focus is on the iPhone 15, which will be the centerpiece of the presentation. The event promises exciting news, including not only the iPhone 15 but also updates to the Apple Watch and other software and hardware announcements.
September 12th marks the date of the Apple event, which starts at 7 p.m. German time. Under the motto "Wonderlust," Apple will present its new products, and some observers are already speculating about the possible meaning of the blue-gray color scheme in relation to the upcoming iPhone 15. The event will be a hybrid event, with the keynote being recorded to reach the majority of the audience, while the press will experience the action up close at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park. Those who want to attend from home have several options to follow the event, including the Apple websitee, the TV app and Apple's official YouTube channel.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
The next generation of iPhones, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, are expected to be unveiled at the event. Among the expected features are:
- The introduction of the Dynamic Island, which will now also be available in the non-Pro versions of the iPhone 15.
- The switch to a USB-C port for charging and data transfer.
- A color-coordinated USB-C cable, possibly longer than the current Lightning cable.
- An upgrade to the powerful A16 Bionic chip.
- Support for the Qi2 wireless charging standard with 15 W charging power.
- A choice of colors including black, green, blue, yellow and pink.
- While the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus bring some new features, they also retain tried-and-tested elements such as the Dynamic Island. Pricing is expected to remain at the same level as previous models, with starting prices of $799 and $899, respectively. Pre-orders begin on September 15, with deliveries starting on September 22.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
Significant improvements are planned for the Pro versions of the iPhone:
- A slimmer display design with thin bezels.
- Switching to USB-C with potentially faster charging speeds and Thunderbolt support.
- A titanium case that promises lightness and elegance.
- The powerful A17 Bionic chip in the 3nm manufacturing process.
- The iPhone 15 Pro Max with improved camera setup, including periscope lens technology.
- A programmable action button as a new function.
- However, all of these innovations could come with higher prices, with the iPhone 15 Pro starting at $1,099. Due to camera hardware supply shortages, the iPhone 15 Pro Max could see a slight delay in delivery.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2
In addition to the iPhones, there are also updates for the Apple Watch:
- The Apple Watch Series 9 with a new S9 processor for improved performance and battery life.
- Possibly a new pink color option and a new strap design.
- The Apple Watch Ultra 2 with similar improvements and the possibility of a black titanium color.
AirPods Pro with USB-C
In line with the iPhone 15's switch to USB-C, Apple will also unveil a new version of the AirPods Pro with a USB-C charger at its September event, according to rumors. The switch from Lightning to USB-C will likely be the only change to the new version of the AirPods Pro. Apple will also likely sell individual AirPods Pro USB-C charging cases so that existing users don't have to buy a completely new pair.
iOS 17 release date and further updates
In addition to the hardware announcements, Apple will also reveal more details about iOS 17 and other new software updates at the September event. These include iOS 17, watchOS 10, tvOS 17, and iPadOS 17. These updates were first announced at WWDC in June and have been in beta testing since then. At the September event, Apple will announce a release date for these software updates. Apple will also likely provide further insight into the new features included in these updates. It should be noted that macOS Sonoma will not be released in September, even though it was announced along with the other updates at WWDC in June. macOS Sonoma will be released sometime in October—at which time Apple will also reportedly unveil the first M3-powered Macs.
Apple Event Wonderlust – Conclusion
The upcoming Apple event on September 12 promises exciting tech reveals. In particular, the iPhone 15 with its impressive improvements and the updates to the Apple Watch are sure to be the focus. The switch to USB-C and the introduction of new technologies could spark discussions about how the wider user base will react to it. With more software updates and possible surprises, the event remains a highlight for tech enthusiasts and Apple fans worldwide.
